dickinson redacted

because Life could not stop for me

i slowly ran behind

hoping at our journey’s end

His reasons there to find

He quickly ran, He took no rest

yet i could scarcely breathe

all this aimless haste had made

my inner spirits seethe

we passed the schools where children left

their lessons done at noon

we passed the mounds of soiled snow

we passed the rising moon

we stopp’d before a cross of wood

and there He bade me wait

then beckon’d me to follow Him

through narrow wicket gates

since then has been but days, but each

seem’d longer than the years

since i had learned to live by grace

and render up my fears
