whence dawn

three hundred sixty-odd days ago

and this

began to be the beginning

of the ending

a last laugh between life

and sleep

and life

one lovely sun-lit

wriggle on a leaf

before cocoon’s embrace

one more wonder

to sing before

asleep inside

to feel no pain

how long ’til morning’s light

’til fragile new wings lengthen

gaining flight?

in twilight

you feel
