every spring is the only spring — a perpetual astonishment. — ellis peters
the city girl and the country girl said it smelled like worms out of doors today, what with all the rain. i rescued two gigantic night crawlers yesterday and remembered worms have a definite, distinct feel in one’s hand. i always associated the rainy twang in the air with mould and earth and humidity — never worms. one learns something new.
and i learned a new word as well: “apricate.” it means “to bask in the sun.”
i plan to do so as soon as the itsy bitsy spider crawls up the spout again.
i have a kite that wants flying.
“is the spring coming?” he said. “what is it like?”…
“it is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…”
