true things

today i had great conversations with three amazing women. i love how they love Jesus and how they love to talk about Him.

i love that they are honest and real and unpretentious.

maybe if i spend lots of time with them, i’ll learn to be more like that.

this year i’ve come to so much appreciate people who are able to speak the truth in love, and who care enough about other people to ask tough questions that could make the other person clam up or pull back from a friendship altogether.

but truth is so valuable that we can’t afford not to tell it. (am i mixing my monetary metaphors? it’s been a long day.)

anyway. i don’t know how far this can be taken, but i’d kind of like to get to the point where i could say to people “ask me anything and i’ll answer you as truthfully as i know how.” with discretion and love, of course. but with truth. not the words i’m “supposed to say” or think they want to hear. not some pretty little vague platitude i whip out so people think i’m all spiritual and a Nice Christian Girl and all that.

ha!

being honest is kind of painful sometimes. it’s kind of scary. it’s kind of humbling. but how is anyone really going to know who you are if you keep walls up all the time? i mean, that white wash is pretty, honey, but it’s gonna flake off after a while. and what then?

i really don’t know where i’m going with this. but ask me something sometime; maybe i’ll answer and we’ll both be surprised.

here’s the song that is the title for this post. i love it because sometimes i forget what is true, or sometimes i don’t believe it. but His truth is not changed by how i feel. it is always, always, always true. and that’s wonder-full.

I’m not the clothes I’m wearing
I’m not a photograph
I’m not the car I drive
I’m not the money I make
I’m not the things I lack
I’m not the songs that I write
I am I am I am who I am
I am who I am

There are true things inside of me
I have been afraid to see
I believe, help my unbelief
Would you say again what you said to me
I am loved and I am free
I believe, help my unbelief

I’m not the house I live in
I’m not the man I love
I’m not the mistakes that I carry
I’m not the food that I don’t eat
I’m not what I’m above
I’m not my scars and my history
I am I am I am who I am
I am who I am

There are true things inside of me
I have been afraid to see
I believe, help my unbelief
Would you say again what you said to me
I am loved and I am free
I believe, help my unbelief

To your love I’m waking up
In your love I’m waking up

There are true things inside of me
I have been afraid to see
I believe, help my unbelief
Would you say again what you said to me
I am loved and I am free
I believe, help my unbelief

    • rhonda ledbetter, then ruth and annie. so not all three at once. but there are several more amazing women i could add to that list — i just didn’t get to see them today (more’s the pity). (oh, were you being punny and asking me a question?) :)

I don’t think so….unless you’re talking about something I said/wrote outside of my previous comment to this post.
