apple pie & cheddar cheese

i dreamed about an apple pie
with a crust of cheddar cheese
but things transpired to be stranger still
for i dreamed you were here with me
instead of far away at the edge of the earth
(or wherever you happen to be)

i’ve heard it said this is midwestern fare
(apple pie with cheddar cheese)
but i’ve yet to taste it for myself
so it’s still a mystery
though my roots grow deep in these fields of wheat
stretching far as the eye can see

oh, won’t you come eat my apple pie
(with a piece of cheddar cheese)?
thought the wind blows cold it’s piping hot
and sweet as ever you please
