if you asked me now what i wanted

i would say a kitchen window with a view

flowers on the table

and a pair of kind eyes laughing back at me across it

i had such a clear picture then

(or thought i had)

when i didn’t know much that mattered

and thought all this was easy

but love sometimes takes a different face

(and grace Himself came in unassuming form)

confounding all our expectations

but always, always something more
