it’s perfectly clear

it’s perfectly clear right now,
says the weather report
with a sunny optimism.
this morning the sky was thick
with clouds that glowered grey
and grumbled with thunder until
they suddenly gave way in rain
and fat drops bounced off the pavement
while a deepening stream raced down the gutter.
and after the rain, the sun;
the blue-scrubbed sky beamed as bright
as if it had never heard of a cloud.
though night has fallen i have no doubt
the stars are twinkling merrily in the darkness;
it’s perfectly clear right now,
the weather report says.
