the dangling conversation: i’m nobody in neglect

Then there’s a pair of us!
As two in whom they were proved mistaken.

I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?

And you read your Emily Dickinson

They leave us so to the way we took

Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!

And I my Robert Frost

As two in whom they were proved mistaken,

That we sit sometimes in the wayside nook,

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –

And we note our place with book markers

With mischievous, vagrant, seraphic look,

To tell one’s name – the livelong June —
To an admiring Bog!

That measure what we’ve lost

And try if we cannot feel forsaken.
