though we have no fig in flower nor heavy grapes upon the vine

though the olive fruit may sour
and the fields to barrenness resign
though the sheep may wander from the herd
and the oxen lie with bleachéd bones
we’ll eat our dinner of humble herbs
with love — for He keeps us as His own
