every ordinary hour

leaves fall one by one off the tree, covering violets, milkweed, and every slumbering thing

leaves fall one by one
off the tree, covering
violets, milkweed, and
every slumbering thing

look! we say from the window
over everything a mist that
vanishes at the first kiss of sun
enfolding us in his warmth

long after today, when we’re
older and wiser and grown
very few memories remain
enjoy every ordinary hour
