mirror, mirror

even the girls with the black frame glasses and white wings

like hearts after steps, there wouldn’t be that breathless sense

even we old secularists whose agnostic grammar beats the video clerks’

of having a pen so perilously close to the face

simply will not see movies where someone gets shoved into a mirror

if the moon weren’t too near.
