the greatest thing

“the greatest thing you can ever accomplish in your life is to know God.” — brent knox

oh man. true, and so encouraging. i could’ve shot to the moon right when i heard that.

“how precious to me are Your thoughts, o God!
how vast is the sum of them!
if i would count them, they are more than the sand.
i awake, and i am still with You.”
— psalm 139:17-18

when God said He would never leave us or forsake us He meant it. He’s there with me in my last conscious thought before sleep, and i don’t have to do some magical incantation to get Him to come back in the morning. He’s been there the whole time.

“that is what makes life at once so splendid and so strange. we are in the wrong world. when i thought that was the right town, it bored me; when i knew it was wrong, i was happy. so the false optimism, the modern happiness, tires us because it tells us we fit into this world. the true happiness is that we don’t fit. we come from somewhere else. we have lost our way.”
— g.k. chesterton, “the ballade of a strange town”

this world is ridiculously beautiful; God made it that way on purpose for us enjoy and to be in awe of how awesome He is. it is home for now. but it is not my final home. that will be perfect and beautiful beyond comparison — not to mention imagining — forever and ever and ever and ever.

and when i see Him, i’ll be like Him, because i’ll finally see Him as He is.

isn’t that cool? ARGH!!!! cool is such a puny, mean-nothing word. but so are all words when applied to something this great.
